Cargotec launches hydraulic hybrid drive machine

Cargotec claims it is the first manufacturer to launch a hydraulic hybrid drive terminal tractor, offering customers enhanced performance, significant savings in fuel costs and reductions in nitrous oxide and particulate matter emissions.
The Kalmar machine, which is the result of Cargotec's partnership with Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd and its subsidiary Kinetics Drive Solutions Inc, will initially be available in North America.
The terminal tractor is equipped with a parallel system that simultaneously transmits power from the primary diesel engine and the secondary hydraulic motor. The co-ordination of these power sources is expected to maximise fuel economy and satisfy performance constraints.
Cargotec says it addressed many operational challenges for hybrid systems in terminal tractors before introducing the machine.

Flexi Narrow Aisle's new VNA truck

Flexi Narrow Aisle Ltd has introduced its new Flexi EURO VNA articulated forklift.
The four-wheel, electric forklift is designed to offer optimum stability and faster, safer work cycles in aisles as narrow as 1.6 metres (5.3 feet) wide.
It can lift pallets up to 7.9 metres (25.9 feet) high and is supplied as standard with treaded cushion rubber tyres. Its twin front wheel drive means the weight of the truck and load is evenly divided between the front two tyres to enhance traction and minimise tyre wear.

Fork Rhino forklift adapters

Automation Devices Inc (ADI) has added five custom Fork Rhinos to its product line.
The Fork Rhino, a forklift ball hitch attachment, can convert a forklift into a versatile equipment handler capable of moving a variety of hitch equipment, including ball hitches and goose necks. It has now been adapted to handle a larger weight capacity.
Additions to the line include the Extra Wide Rhino that accommodates fork limitations and the Placement Rhino designed to move vibratory feed equipment.
Designed by ADI president Kevin Smith, the Fork Rhino adapters can evenly spread the load to both forks, eliminating fork sag, while remaining smaller and lighter than most spotters.

Clarification: Cat's Active Sway Control

Last week, we reported on Cat Lift Trucks' introduction of its Active Sway Control. The report may have been misinterpreted as implying that the system is incorporated as standard on its high-level order pickers up to 5.1 metres (16.7 feet). It is, in fact, supplied with pickers starting with platform heights of 5.1 metres and extending up to the maximum of 10 metres. It is available as an option on models with lower platform heights.
