New twistlock claims safety advantage
Helsinki, FinlandCargotec's fully automatic MacGregor C8A twistlock claims to have significant safety advantages for cargo-handling operations.
The safety boost comes when the twistlock is unlocked by the vertical lift of the discharging crane, rather than manually by stevedores. The units also have a 'positive locking' mechanism to manually lock the twistlock. The feature is used below lashing bar level to limit the peak forces acting on lashing bars and turnbuckles. Cargotec says this increases cargo safety.
The C8A has also passed stringent testing and performance criteria to gain Germanischer Lloyd approval.

Jungheinrich's new stacker
Hamburg, GermanyJungheinrich has introduced a new EJC range electric pedestrian stacker.
The EJC 110/112/212 can lift up to 1.2 T, achieve heights of 4.7 m (15.4 ft.), and is "exceptionally economical" over short distances.
"The main reason for the particularly high economic efficiency of the EJC is the perfect adjustment of three-phase AC motors to the system control developed by Jungheinrich," says head of product management Stefan Hirt.
The stacker is produced at the factory in Norderstedt.
Rack Nets 'changes the face of racking design'
Warrington, United KingdomWarehouse Partners Ltd has launched back-of-rack netting, fixed to the rear of single runs of pallet racking to prevent loads stores in pallet bays from falling into aisles during the put-away and retrieval process.
According to the firm, unlike metal mesh guards which have traditionally been used to perform a similar function, Rack Nets back-of-rack netting does not buckle or become misshaped if subjected to the considerable force that can be exerted by a displaced pallet.
