hagebau Logistik has switched to electric forklifts |
Building materials supplier hagebau Logistik has switched to Jungheinrich for its materials handling equipment needs, planning to replace its current fleet with around 200 Jungheinrich trucks.
hagebau Logistik has five logistics sites, in Westerkappeln, Neumunster, Herten, Schleinitz and Burgau, running diesel-powered trucks which will be decommissioned as it moves to electric vehicles.
Sustainability is one of the major motivators for the change, with the company expecting to reduce its ecological footprint. It is expecting the CO2 emissions of its truck fleet to be cut by around 42%.
All the equipment will be rented, enabling hagebau Logistik to increase the flexibility of its intralogistics fleet.
In its analysis of the current fleet, Jungheinrich determined that many trucks were underutilised or inappropriately equipped. The core fleet has therefore been reduced by 20%, with provisions for extra machines to be supplied for seasonal peaks in demand. Trucks that are no longer needed will be withdrawn again. This flexible system avoids overcapacity and guarantees high availability despite a reduced fleet size, significantly reducing operating costs.
Founded in 1964, hagebau is a cooperative, supported today by around 370 independent, medium-sized companies in the specialist and retail trade. More than 1,750 locations in Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, France, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands) are affiliated to the hagebau Group.
Under the hagebau brand name, the specialist trade serves the B2B building materials, tile and wood sectors while the group also has retail operations.
