APM Terminals Liberia has added two Liebherr 600 mobile harbour cranes to the Freeport of Monrovia in West Africa, which has recently completed dredging to allow larger vessels to dock.

APM Terminals, a subsidiary of Denmark-based A.P. Moller-Maersk, said the USD15 million investment at the port would increase productivity and reduce vessel waiting times, which will lower the price of goods imported into Liberia.

National Port Authority managing director Diana Nebo says: "This new equipment will significantly enhance productivity and certainly help in our ambitious drive to reaffirm the Free Port of Monrovia’s position as the gateway to the economy of Liberia and the Mano River Union."

Liberian Minister for Finance and Development Planning Samuel D Tweah Jr says APM Terminals Liberia’s partnership with the National Port Authority, Liberian Maritime Authority and the government of Liberia was “crucial”.
