Two ZPMC STS cranes arrive in CroatiaCroatia’s Rijeka Gateway terminal has taken delivery of the last two of four ship-to-shore (STS) cranes ordered from China’s ZPMC.
The first two STS cranes were delivered to Rijeka Gateway, a €380 million (USD398 million) joint venture between APM Terminals and Enna Logic, in October 2024.
The most recent delivery of the STS cranes means 90% of equipment at the new terminal has now arrived; the terminal itself is 75% constructed and is expected to be operational later this year.
Peter Corfitsen, CEO of Rijeka Gateway, explains: “We are in the final construction phase, which includes completing the terminal’s key infrastructure and renovating Warehouse 22”.
APM Terminals says Rijeka Gateway will be “the largest and most advanced terminal in this part of Europe”. It is powered exclusively by renewable energy sources and is billed as one of the most sustainable terminals ever built.
In its first operational stage, the terminal will have an operational quay of 400 m in length, 20 m in depth, an annual handling capacity of 650,000 TEU, with the ability to accommodate vessels with a capacity of up to 18,000 TEU.
Denis Vukorepa, director of the Port Authority of Rijeka adds: “The future Rijeka Gateway Container Terminal is the largest, most important, and most complex project in our history; I would say a generational project for the Port of Rijeka”.
