Container terminal Brasil Terminal Portuario (BTP) at the Port of Santos, has accepted delivery of two Super Post-Panamax class ship-to-shore cranes which it says will increase capacity by 25% and is part of a USD328 million investment to expand the terminal.
The STS cranes, manufactured by ZPMC, stand 94 m tall, have a 19 m reach below the quay, and a 70 m boom length, allowing for container positioning in up to 25 rows within vessels and handling of loads up to 65 T under the spreader.
The fully electrified cranes are also contributing to BTP’s ambition to be carbon zero by 2030.
BTP project implementation manager Fábio Duarte explains: “The two new STS cranes are expected to be operational by February 2025, adding their capacity to the eight Super Post-Panamax cranes already at the terminal, for a total of 10 fully operational STS cranes”.
BTP says it plans to acquire two more cranes in the coming years, bringing its quay fleet to 12 cranes.
BTP has been in operation since 2013 in the Port of Santos and is a JV between Terminal Investment Limited and APM Terminals.
