ITI to invest in port equipmentChilean port Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI) will spend USD15 million in port equipment renewal in 2025 including on new container carriers and a mobile crane.
The investment aligns with ambitions to “strengthen its position as a multipurpose port terminal” with growth aspirations.
The next deliveries to the terminal will include the first batch of eight Kalmar container cranes and the addition of a second Konecranes mobile crane.
ITI general manager Rodrigo Pommiez says the new equipment will help to improve the competitiveness and productivity of the terminal which requires such a significant investment.
“These actions are in line with a strategy of exploring new market opportunities, which includes the incorporation of other services that will not only improve the operational efficiency of the port, but will also offer comprehensive logistics solutions to our customers,” Pommiez adds.
"We hope that these improvements that we are implementing will boost regional economic growth and strengthen the competitiveness of Iquique as a key logistics hub in northern Chile.”
In 2024, ITI mobilised 2.5 million tonnes of cargo.
