Discussion:
Drive problem

Hello, our old (1987) e3.00xl has virtually zero power fwd or rev, it will turn the wheels in both directions when raised, but very slowly. I suspect an scr issue, can these be repaired in any way? Or is the machine scrap.

Hi Mark,
Looks like you're right regarding CC Power. Shame they've dug us out of a hole several times but just looked at the last time we used them and it was 2019 so i guess it shows the market has moved on and everything is being kept in house by manufacturers these day.

Haven't seen any pictures...if you click on my "Reply by" Dez_A signature link, my e-mail address is listed inside.

Service life of a forklift is proportional to how well it is maintained.
That's a great help Dez, I think CC Power are no longer trading. I have some photos that I can send over, thanks again for your help

Hi Mark,
CC Power based in Stockport Cheshire are a electronic repair & diagnostic company, not the manufacturer of the PCB. If you talk to Jed or one of the team and tell them the details from the sticker (usually Model No. Serial No. and Job No) they can advise what control system is fitted to the truck and what the PCB you have is.
I suspect you have a Cableform system but if i'm being honest it's so long since i've seen one, memory is a bit foggy.
If you want to e-mail me a picture (in signature) i'll try and identify for you.
Dez

Yes , disconnect components until frame ground goes away. Usually the frame ground is caused by brush dust in motor since it was rained on that could cause dust get wet and collect causing frame ground. Disconnect
Battery and blow out motors with air and check
Before you pull components if not then check
Contractors first with the hyds and steer slow as well you may have shorted control card assy

Im assuming its a short in the scr of some sort or a component on the pcb damaged by the water, our forklift engineer has said to disconnect each item until there's no voltage showing to the frame?

Hi John, its a CC Power electronics Ltd SCR unit Model no 8022 36-80volts, serial no 01 04 8948. The forklift is a Hyster E 3.00XL C108A02237G
Circa year 1987. The fwd and rev contractors pull in as they should as does the hydraulics contactor. The 4 x pcb leds light up as they should when requested. And the wheels turn increasing in speed as the accelerator is depressed but nowhere near fast enough. It's as if there's not enough power being delivered to the motor. The motor brushes look fine.

Hi John , there's a small printed circuit board say 4" x 6" attached to a larger black potted block with some large terminal connections. At the top of this there are two components. One is a small copper wound coil the other is a square block with some small control wires. Then there's also an scr bridge rectifier (ive identified this by looking online). Sorry to be so vague, it's difficult to explain without sending photos

Can you describe the control card ?
Is it about 12 x10 in and wires on both sides adjustment pots in center ? Or larger with solid metal cover ?

The board may have shorted due to the moisture is there any way you can post pic of board ? It could be 1of 4 controls in that unit knowing the control I can help you diagnose your issue. Do your hyds work properly?

Thanks, John I've had a look at the pcb, it's dry and I can't see anything burned etc, the truck has been indoors over 6 months now so I can't see anything still being wet.

It possibly has moisture inside of control card ,
The black box with wires.unplug unit and
Blow out with air , leave unplugged for a day or two then try it.It is possible this will give moisture time to dissipate. If this doesn't work then you are looking at a new control card. The voltage to frame is probably from
The moisture on scr panel etc

Just to note, I am confused why the chassis is live when the ignition is switched on, and just to add , the issue started when the forklift was caught in a rain shower. I suspect damage to the control pcb or scr. (Although nothing obvious to see)I'm just wondering if either of these can be repaired if water damaged? Thanks in advance??
