Toyota to merge Vanderlande and Bastian in Europe and the USToyota Industries Corporation has announced it intends to establish a new materials handling entity - Toyota Automated Logistics - under which the global names of Vanderlande, Bastian Solutions and viastore Group will all operate across the US and Europe from April 2026.
Toyota Industries says the Toyota Automated Logistics (TAL) brand will unify its European and US warehouse automation–related organisations, including their subsidiaries, under the one name as part of a reorganisation of its warehouse automation business.
“Through this contemplated reorganisation, Toyota Industries aims to strengthen group-wide collaboration and enhance its global warehouse automation business,” the business states.
“As part of Toyota Industries, TAL intends to combine proven performance with forward-thinking solutions to help businesses adapt to changing needs and stay ahead.
“Bringing together the strengths of Bastian Solutions, Vanderlande's warehousing domain and viastore, TAL is scheduled to deliver scalable systems, intelligent software and life-cycle services in one connected offering.”
Toyota Industries Dutch subsidiary Vanderlande Industries Holding, largely drives its global logistics automation business and manages large-scale automation systems for airports, parcel handling, and warehouse automation.
German subsidiary via store Intralogistics Holdings, engages in small to medium-scale warehouse automation.
US subsidiary Bastian Solutions is a small to medium-sized logistics system integrator.
“Since the three companies joined our group, our company has been working on strengthening collaboration between the organisations and creating synergies through phased organisational restructuring,” Toyota Industries says in a statement.
“In Europe, Toyota Industries is considering merging the warehouse automation businesses of Vanderlande and viastore. In the United States, Bastian and Vanderlande’s US warehouse automation business will be integrated.
“Vanderlande will continue to specialise in airport and parcel operations, providing even higher value-added solutions and services.
“Through this contemplated reorganisation, Toyota Industries will develop solutions tailored to the characteristics of each business area and strengthen its sales capabilities, while also making effective use of resources such as personnel, solution lineup, customer base, and information within the warehouse automation business to provide solutions suited to diverse customer operations and segments around the world.”
Daniel Allcock, head of automation with JB Andrews recruiters, in a LinkedIn post says this consolidation had been widely anticipated in the market and is a very significant move.
“This isn’t just a rebrand,” he states. “It’s the creation of a USD3 billion-plus powerhouse with the scale, capability and global footprint to meaningfully influence the next decade of automation across the warehousing & distribution, post & parcel and airports & baggage handling sectors.”
It has been a year of consolidation for Toyota. In January it announced the establishment of a new materials handling entity with the merger of Toyota Material Handling and the Raymond Corporation to begin operating under the same banner of Toyota Material Handling North America (TMHNA) from April 1.
