We just got two of these reach trucks. On one the forks lower fast, with the hyd. motor running. The other one lowers fast with the hyd. motor running until it gets to the free lift (rails all the way down). At that point ,the hyd. motor quits and forks lower very slowly. There is no fault code. Any ideas anyone? The operators will not use this truck because it's so slow.

On Yale reach trucks the main pump only runs the lift. If you activate reach it is powered by the steer pump. The same with tilt and side shift if it is installed, so when the mast is in power down it has no effect on the other functions. I was told the primary reason for power down was to equalize the lowering speed so an empty mast will lower at the same speed as a fully loaded mast.
Do you have access to the dash? You need to check the setting. Your problem could be a simple setting.
Hi, I have a Yale narrow aisle picker model OS030BF. The issue is the picker descends slowly! The picker runs fine, it even lifts up at normal speed but when coming down it is very very slow. I have checked hydraulic lines and fluids everything looks good just can't figure out why it slowly descends? Please any ideas let me know
Thanks stam- I'll know what to look for if I ever see one set up like that.
don't take this to the bank as this is my understanding of the raymond product.
as you lower valving on the pump gets activated closing the dump line to the tank forcing hydraulic oil through the pump instead which causes the pump to drive the motor.
on this raymond truck aux functions are controlled by the aux motor so asking for any other functions would just turn on the aux motor. lift motor only runs lift, i imagine on a reach with one pump motor for all hydraulic functions the regen ability would have to be cut and pump fired back up to perform a hyd. function.
stam- so on a lift with regen- the hoist cyl's drain back through the pressure hose (& hyd pump) back to the tank? Don't mean to be a pest- just trying to understand the system.
If that is how it works- what happens if the operator is lowering & using another hydraulic function at the same time?
sorry for late reply didn't see this
some electric forklifts with ac motors are now using the hydraulic pressure when lowering to drive the pump and motor for regen, the pump motor power amp controls all the current generated and sends it back to the battery.
i have only seen one so far and it was a raymond turret truck, the operators said it would run a shift and a half, i never bothered to confirm that.
lower assist is new to me and seems redundant but i'm not an engineer.
Stam- could you explain hyd. regen- I'm not familiar
it probaly has hyd. regen
YaleTech. , Thanks for the information. We did what you suggested and called the local Yale dealer. He was very good with these trucks. I asked questions , watched and learned a lot. I ordered a service manual also. All of our other trucks are Toyota and Raymond electrics and are not like these trucks in any way. We got those new and I had a chance work with the dealer techs while they were on warranty. These came from a plant that closed and had a few thousand hours on them. It's going to take a while learn them. Thank you everybody who commented, everything helps. Lee
yep same here... i'd like to know how that works as well.
;o)
Could there be an explanation on how this system works? Any hydraulic system I've seen dumps the hoist cylinder fluid into the return line back to the tank- not through the pressure line, through the hyd pump back to the tank.
Thanks YaleTechnician, I just learned something new...
I never would have expected that a guillotine (like a carriage falling) needed to be accelerated faster. (makes me wonder if they have urine testing for the design team)
;-)
actually this NR EA unit has hyd down assist which the pump actually reverses direction while lowering to assist faster speed while lowering. Now the unit that the motor stops working is a setting that you have to adjust thru the dash. Find your local yale dealer and have them do it for you to get hydraulic to work proper. there is 2 versions of this NR. one premium and other is retail. THis unit is premium. good luck
Thanks for the help guys. These machines are very new to me. When the control handle is pushed all the way to the lower position, the forks power down very fast. If you back off just a little, the hyd. motor stops running and gravity takes over. The problem is that in that mode it lowers very slowly, even with a load. There is no linkage to the control handle, it's all CAN wiring. The valve is a solenoid valve, mounted on the hyd. pump. There is no fault code. Tilt, side shift and reach operation are normal, but they are on the steering's hyd. system. Any info would be helpful. Thanks, Lee
