On Yale reach trucks the main pump only runs the lift. If you activate reach it is powered by the steer pump. The same with tilt and side shift if it is installed, so when the mast is in power down it has no effect on the other functions. I was told the primary reason for power down was to equalize the lowering speed so an empty mast will lower at the same speed as a fully loaded mast.

Fact of the week
The word "okay" (or its abbreviation "OK") originated as a humorous misspelling. In the 1830s, a fad in Boston involved using abbreviations of intentionally misspelled phrases. "OK" stood for "oll korrect," a playful mispronunciation of "all correct".
