well disabling the horn being you are the only one in there is one thing but that fact alone combined with the fast driving might be a bad combination. what if u had an accident, tipped lift over or something, nobody around to help? not good....
i think some lifts use the horn as a warning when something is wrong like parking brake not set while off the seat and other things such as that. It may seen trivial but would certainly be worth getting someone to fix it before something bad happens.
If you know how important it is why are you still asking how to,disable it?? any safety device fitted to any MHE equipment has got to work all the time as stated in both loller and puwer regulations. As for the depot manager telling you to slow down lol, if,one of my staff decided to do something I had told him not to do ie drive too fast my reply would be there's the door don't slam it on the way out and don't come back though it again
Hey guys I realise that was a stupid thing for me to say. Off course I know how important it is lol. I am the only guy who uses it & there is no one around at all when I am tipping at 3am. I meant a temporary disable. Everyone outside the warehouse thinks I'm crazy & just doing the horn for the fun of it. like what parts guy said, but an over-weight/over-speed warning device may not be related to the make and model of the truck, it is often an added 'aftermarket' item.
you need to get your supervisor and the service department involved to be sure it is not a bad (shorting out) horn button wire or the switch itself. a horn that blows when it should not is ever bit as much a hazard as a horn that does not blow when it should.
As Edward said never ever disable a safety devise. I am not familiar with this model of truck but am wondering if it has a over speed over weight alarm that is causing the horn to blow. As you said it does is at high speed and heavy loads. If that is the case it was done that way for a reason.
never ever disable ANY safety device (and a horn is for sure a safety device, that the truck should NEVER be driven without).
