Yes, we have our fines as well in the law books. Companies are liable up to $500,000.00 CDN and staff, supervisors and operators, $50,000.00. Jail time to a maximum of 1 year if the operator maliciously and purposely injures/kills another individual with the forklift, and officers of the company, up to $500,000.00CDN for failing to heed the warnings by the Ministry to clean up their act because of multiple workplace related incidents.

Doesn't mean anything if they are not patrolling the streets, does it?

The did a blitz in February of this year, and intend to do another in February of 2010. Lousy time of year since it is so darn cold, plenty of snowstorms and the forklifts are all hiding inside. They should reschedule for a month like May.

AS they say ' Don't worry Danny, when there is an incident, we will hit em hard. Sounds like reactive instead of proactive to me.

Hi Dan
Mayb we are just lucky over here our Health & Safety Executive have sucessfully prosecuted firms that flout the law on safety issues have just read that firm has been fined £133,000 for causing a fatal accident on loading dock. New legislation that came to pass is our new Health & Safety Offences act 2008 which raises the fine for an employee(yes employee) to same amount as employer £20,000 or 12 months prison sentence or both for flouting the Heath & Safety Laws. Mayb your Gov should have consultations with our HSE. But pigs will fly and then the price of bacon will go up first.

The only 2 things that the government can do well are

1) Collect every last cent we own via taxes
2) Waste it foolishly

Maybe it is the same in your country as well. lol

They cannot even clamp down on those firms NOT getting their people trained, never mind proposing new legislation that they cannot enforce anyways.

But thank you anyways.

I service my clients to the hilt, and not worry about others that simply avoid or procrastinate their training requirements.
