 An ATLAS machine. |
The US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) wants to procure up to 1,000 new All-Terrain Lifter Army System (Atlas) II forklifts for fiscal year 2006.
The Atlas II is a C-130 air transportable, variable reach, rough-terrain vehicle with a maximum load capacity of 10,000lbs (4,536kg). TACOM is seeking suppliers to produce 600 to 1,000 vehicles.
The forklifts' primary missions will be handling all classes of supply, inserting and extracting 40 inch (1.0 metre) by 48 inch (1.2 metre) pallets from army containers, transloading palletised loads between transportation modes and handling Air Force 463L pallets up to 10,000lbs (4,536kg).
A draft purchase description (PD) and questionnaire to gather industry input will be posted on the Atlas II website in a month's time.
The technical requirements, which are subject to change, will be in the draft PD. The materials handling industry is welcome to comment on any issues in the draft.
TACOM intends to publish a draft request for proposal in the first quarter of fiscal 2006 and release the request for proposal before the start of fiscal 2006's second quarter.
The tender is expected to be awarded before the end of the 2006 third quarter.
