Omron and Wiferion join forces

Japanese industrial automation provider Omron has certified German industrial wireless charging specialists Wiferion’s technology for its LD series autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) following the successful deployment at North American integrator company Ramp.

The international roll-out of Wiferion’s technology follows a trial of the combined technology at the 9,000,000 sqft. (836,127 sqm) automotive manufacturing facility in Ontario of Samuel Automation company Ramp.

Wiferion says its inductive charging technology facilitates fast charging up to 60amps, reducing down time for the AMRs and maximises operating time. The wireless charging solution is sealed and requires no mechanical contacts.

In-process charging at defined stations can also be used to automatically charge AMRs during work processes without interrupting operations.

Ramp director of sales Mike Balzan explains: “Combining Wiferion’s wireless charging system and Omron’s AMRs allowed us to solve a tough throughput problem for our customer, reduced fleet size, and saved valuable floor space by eliminating idle charger space”.
