KION's new automated distribution centreKION Group has opened its EUR90 million (USD100.6 million) “highly automated” spare parts distribution and production centre in Kahl am Main, a move designed to strengthen its presence in Europe.
The new distribution centre covers an area of 22,000sqm and, KION says, “was realised in close cooperation between the KION brands Linde Material Handling and Dematic” - Linde providing the industrial forklifts AMRs while Dematic’s continuous conveyor technology was adopted.
It features state-of-the-art safety and energy solutions, integrated material flow systems and automation and digital technology.
The layout features a 30m-high, fully automated high-bay warehouse with six aisles and a high-performance multi-shuttle system with around 110,000 storage locations.
“The highly automated KION Regional Distribution Center Central Europe will enable us to ensure a fast and reliable supply of spare parts for our customers in Germany and neighbouring markets in the long term,” says Andreas Krinninger, president KION ITS EMEA.
This lighthouse project demonstrates the comprehensive capabilities of the KION Group and combines state-of-the-art automation, digitalisation, safety, and energy technologies from our two segments – Industrial Trucks & Services and Supply Chain Solutions.”
