GRI, a Sri Lankan-based company that makes tyres for forklifts, has acquired Hungarian tyre dealership ATRA Kecskemet as it expands its presence in Europe.

Atra, based in Ladánybene in Southern Hungary, has eight branches and 50 staff and has captured more than 50% of the marketshare of the country’s materials handling and construction tyre markets.

GRI director of Europe Giorgio Gramegna says: “This significantly strengthens our business in Hungary for all our key products.

“Hungary is also ideally located in Europe between Western and Eastern Europe.

“It brings us closer to all our customers in neighbouring countries and has the potential to be a noteworthy logistics and operational hub in the region.”

GRI already has a presence in Germany, Spain, Netherlands and the Baltics.

GRI managing director Prabhash Subasinghe says: “Acquiring Atra was an easy choice, as it services all the categories of GRI specialty tyres, and it has maintained an impressive heritage of customer service, professionalism and sustained business growth consistently increasing its market share.”

Atra founder Tibor Somos says: “Under GRI’s new ownership as well as leadership, I am confident that Atra will scale to even greater heights.”

GRI produces sustainable tyres for materials handling, agricultural and construction equipment that are available in more than 50 countries globally.
