Discussion:
Toyota FBCU20 No lower

I have this unit that has all normal functions, no codes. Have freelift and main lift, it will lower first three stages, will not lower in free lift range. Cracked line at base of cylinder and will lower, anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!!

Very funny 7777. First want to thank everyone for their help!! The final solution was indeed the load holding solenoid. Was redecent in buying one, very pricey, but turned out to be the problem. Thanks again!!!

"it's not rocket surgery"
On a 7 series 4 wheel there is a load holding/lowering valve/solenoid assy that can fail and cause the issue you're having. It gets stuck closed partway so the 2nd stage will lower (although slowly) but in freelift can take forever. But like the poster above me said there is a manual lowering valve that bypasses this assy.

If ti is a 7 series 4 wheel it should have a manual lowering valve in the hydraulic control valve. If memory serves me right it is at the bottom front side of the valve, just above the lift solenoid. It should be a bolt with a jam nut, loosen up the jam nut, push lift lever to lower, than loosen the bolt slowly until the forks come down. If that work than there is a valve hanging up.

Is the orifice check valve inside the FFL cylinder.

Let me begin by thanking you very much for your inputs and assistance. To review my troubleshooting, when I did crack the return line from FFL cylinder, on the manifold, forks immediately came down. Now does'nt that eliminate all components from cylinder to manifold? That is what has me confused, especially with the manifold components in seemingly "good" condition.

Try running the truck w/out the guts of the valve just to check the issues. Or break each line at different intervals in the circuit to see basically where the problem lies. If the truck drops the secondary cylinders ok, then it should drop the FFL cylinder.
The problem, as you stated, was in the FFL cylinder, so my guess is that it would be at the bottom of the FFL cylinder.
Give a try, you'll figure it out

I think I ran into that problem on a 8 series LP unit. This is a 7 series, 4 wheel sitdown Toyota with no SAS. Again removed valve. Does anyone know what to look for, because the first time I disassembled, springs seemed in good shape as well as the spool valve and poppets. I really need help on this one guys!!!

The 8 series gas trucks had a bulliten that refers to issues w/ the control valves. One would have to remove the control valve and remove the lower portion of the lowering valve. Then insert the replacement part. This all due to a broken spring that the old part/part# was recalled on. Call the toyota dealer and they'll know if there is a recall on the 7 series electrics

If in fact the problem is in the control valve [assuming that your have a 7 series truck with SAS] The problem is most likely in the lift select solenoid. We can trouble shoot and repair these valves. Should you have any questions drop me an email. keith at aztechydraulics dot com

To crack a line while the forks are in the air is one thing, but to get soaked w/ oil is a very dangerous manuveur. Dont do that again. The problem is somewhere between the lower part of the FFL cylinder and the return end of the control valve, (assuming the cylinder stages are all operating in the lift properly). Investigate alittle and you'll find it.

Well, I decided to remove manifold, what a task! I left the forks up a little to see if they would lower when I removed the return line. After getting doused with fluid, forks immediately lowered rapidly. Disassembled all valves and poppets and did find minor amounts of debris, no big stuff, springs all seemed in good shape. Reassembled and installed........same problem. Does anyone know if they rebuild or remanufactor the valve.....if that is indeed the problem. Please assist with any more suggestions, and thanks 7777! Also, springs were not broken, but could they lose there recoil pressure?

Thanks all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you might want to check along the main hydraulic line for a "valve of sort". Sometimes the flow "check" valves break internally, or get dirt in them and seize.

Fact of the week
The origin of "love" as the score zero in tennis is debated, but two main theories prevail. One suggests it's derived from the French word "l'oeuf" (egg) which resembles the shape of the number zero. The other proposes it's related to the Dutch word "lof" meaning "honour" as players might be playing for honour when scoreless.
