Mobicon Systems, the Australian based light-weight straddle carrier producer, has released its first battery-powered container handler, the 2HLe, designed to reduce emissions and running costs. With 30 years’ experience designing and manufacturing light-weight straddle carriers, Mobicon Systems is known for its high quality, robust straddle carriers that are highly manoeuvrable, light on yard surfaces, and safer to operate.

Tom Schults, owner of Mobicon Systems explains why they’ve produced a battery powered straddle carrier. “When speaking with our current and potential customers, it became clear that there was a demand for zero-emission container handlers. We wanted to meet this demand, whilst also providing our customers with an efficient, and quieter solution.”

“The 2HLe combines all the benefits of our most popular model the 2HL; able to stack containers 2-high, tight turning circle, light-weight - won’t damage the average yard surface, and enhanced safety features, along with the added benefits of zero-emissions, reduced noise and operator fatigue, and lower running costs. It was also important to us that we maintain our robust, and proven, hydraulic lifting and driving system, which eliminates the use of wire ropes, and associated maintenance costs”.

“It was an extensive process to ensure that the 2HLe met our quality standards in terms of components, and parts. Our team worked closely with several prominent suppliers to produce the 2HLe, guaranteeing that we continue to provide our customers with high-quality light-weight straddle carriers.”

The 2HLe model includes:

  • Lithium-ion phosphate battery system
  • Rexroth/Webasto hardware
  • Capacity to stack containers 2-high
  • Hydraulic lifting system – eliminates wire rope breakage, decreasing maintenance costs and downtime, prevents swinging of the load, and increases lifting efficiency and reliability
  • Low axle weights – won’t damage the average yard surface, reducing downtime of your operation due to yard repairs
  • Remote twist lock system – no need for the operator to leave the cabin, instead cameras are used to engage the twist-locks into the container.

In addition to the 2HLe and 2HL, Mobicon Systems also produces the 2T model. The Mobicon 2T provides a safe, effective, and economical solution, that can take containers off the back of the truck and carry them under awnings and into warehouses, eliminating double handling. It is a flexible and efficient machine with a 35-tonne carrying capacity, and a small turning circle for work in tight spaces.

Mobicons are used across a diverse range of industries, and in many different operational and environmental settings. Low entry ways and narrow aisles in warehousing, logistics and manufacturing; uneven and unsealed surfaces in mining, and even the hull of a defence force ship, Mobicon light-weight straddle carriers can traverse it all, making it a safe, flexible, and efficient materials handling solution.

Mobicon is recognised worldwide, and their carriers are used in the US, UK, South Africa, Asia, and Europe. If you are based in Australia and plan on attending the Brisbane Truck Show on the 15-18th May, come and visit us at Booth 278 on the Plaza level. We’d love to see you there and discuss how the 2HLe can benefit your business.
