I'm wondering if the community can point us in the right direction troubleshooting a Hyster E65 lift truck. Production will drop the truck off citing that the tilt and shift operation does not work. We verify this by trying to quickly engage the tilt or shift. The pump kicks in but we get no movement. However, if we very carefully work the tilt or shift the situation will eventually correct itself. We can't understand why it works sometimes, sometimes doesn't. The pump is kicking in...just no movement. Play with it a bit...it corrects itself. A very agitating intermittent situation. Any ideas???

i looked at the hydraulic system on that unit and it has a single pump but it does have a seperate releif valve for the auxiliary systems and it's a safe bet that's where the problem is. i would pull it, clean it and check for broken parts. it's fairly cheap if you need to replace it but be sure to set it before returning to service.
I'm sorry, we are speaking about a Hyster E65XM-40 with a serial number of F108V10521U.
as ED said a full model # would help but some of the older units had two pumps and a check valve between, one ran for aux (tilt s/s etc) and both ran for lift. if yours is set up like that check the second motor and see if its turning backwards when you activate the first pump (aux). that means the check is bad. i have never seen one with a bad check clear up on it's own but anything is possible.
a model and serial number will help get you more correct answers. also does it have fingertip controls or lever? have you checked the suction line, and return line filters?
