as ED said a full model # would help but some of the older units had two pumps and a check valve between, one ran for aux (tilt s/s etc) and both ran for lift. if yours is set up like that check the second motor and see if its turning backwards when you activate the first pump (aux). that means the check is bad. i have never seen one with a bad check clear up on it's own but anything is possible.
