Discussion:
Stage 3B/Tier4 Final Engines

From Jan 1st 2013 all Engines which fall in the 37-55kw band ( typically forktrucks in the 3 ton and 3.5 ton range) must meet Stage3B/Tier4 Final emission compliance in Europe and the USA. How are other forktruck manufacturers dealing with this. Are they introducing new engines or adding an after treatment solution.

From what i know about this some engines that come from the auto industry are allready complient. Like linde and VW , JCB have quite a good engine that use EGR but for larger engines SCR will be needed. The major area that this will efffect will be trucks over 6,000kg that came into effect this year. The chinese won't be able to sell there equipment in Europe and North America if they don't comply. The dealer would face fines and so will the customer so whowould want to risk the fine.

The most likely solution will be soot filters. Crazy in that it will satisfy the exhaust requirements but will put up fuel consumption of the machine.

The next issue will be who changes the soot filters - the customer or the service provider? Just imagine the quantity of soot filters being carried around everyday in the future to and from cleaning stations. No doubt carried around in the back of vans creating more exhaust fumes. Compliance is an ever decreasing circle.

The Chinese Companies will do nothing about it and you can guarantee that they will still send machines into Europe after 2013,

Unfortunately you will be forced to comply

Things never change

Compliance is always for the easy target,
