The best way(correct way) to test a logic level rotary encoder. Such as the ones found on Raymond trucks, is to use an oscilloscope. Sure you will see a voltage with a DMM set to AC. But you still have no idea if the encoder is working properly. It could be missing pulses on either channel A or B, or have a noisy channel. A bad encoder can still "test" ok with a DMM, yet cause all kinds of strange drivability issues.
Optical encoders (found in most Raymond steer motors and steer tillers, and belt driven drive motor speed encoders) will produce no voltage when turned by hand and disconnected by the way. They require a +5V supply to function.
You are most likely confusing the speed sensor on some drive motors that use teeth on a wheel pressed onto the armature as a pickup. That is not an "encoder", it is an pickup coil and reluctor wheel. That will produce AC voltage when the armature is rotated.

Superword is 2 from factory. Can be changed to anything! Once someone has changed it, only God knows what the code is. You need a laptop and software to reset it to default "2"

If you have a for/aft stance, its in the side cover below the Vehicle manager. there is a fuse card with 3 relays. They supply the power, traction and lift amps. Fail often from vibration, spikes. Cause many phanton codes (5G,5J)
By the way, any encoder on Raymonds should be checked with a voltmeter on A/C volts. When unhooked, you can test them by spinning the drive motor by hand. Same for the height encoder, unplug and put leads on each channel. There will a a 2 volt A/C voltage while turning the encoder. these encoders produce voltage. You can do a test in superword for the encoder, but this will fail if the power amp or wiring is bad.

Please ensure the power cables are clean and show no signs of overheating. Usually, the traction power amp fails because of poor crimps at the cable ends...right at power amp. You must buy the cables as it's crimps are special high strength. Home made crimps will overheat as they cant take the current. If the connector at the power amp was dark and discolored, the new power amp will fry as well! Any trucks with overheated cables and loose nuts on the power amp will need cables asap! Change before the power amp shorts. Always replace the 3 relays (1-100-068) when replacing the power amp.

Have you checked the limit switch go on the service and inputs check the input for the limit switch on the mast and when the forks are down make sure it says below.... if its says above then you have a problem....if you have an encoder fault you should be getting a code if I'm not mistaken.
