Discussion:
Broken timing belt

I have a VW diesel with broken timing belt and it appears to have an interference engine, the cam shaft wont spin all the way around, is this an interference engine and the valves hit the pistons?

It is an interference engine.

If the belt breaks you will most likely have damaged valves and smashed tappets (valve lifters). The camshaft will also probably be damaged.

Do you have the BEU or the newer CBHA engine? If you have the CBHA engine you need to look closely at the wear on the pulleys. The CBHA engine is more susceptible to belt failure than the BEU engine if the pulleys are worn.

The use of "hello" as a telephone greeting is attributed to Thomas Edison. He is said to have suggested it as a simpler alternative to other greetings, such as "Do I get you?" or "Are you there?".
