Toyota Material Handling USA Inc has won a 10-year contract to supply materials handling equipment to the US Postal Service's (USPS) 38,000 locations nationwide.
Toyota's Brett Wood would not name the contract price, but said it was "multi-million-dollar".
USPS will use Toyota forklifts to load and store mail. Toyota had to convince USPS of its quality and service capabilities, safety standards, technical support, customer satisfaction and distribution network to win the contract.
Toyota will create a custom version of its website to give USPS access to information and specifications on Toyota's forklift line. USPS will be able to access service and support through Toyota's 181 facilities across the US.
Toyota USA was established in California in 1967. Most of its US-sold forklifts are manufactured at Toyota's Columbus, Indiana facility. The company is a world leader in forklift sales.
