Shipping giant Maersk has opened a new bonded warehouse in Southern Denmark with picking, packing and sorting capabilities.

Maersk says the new warehouse in Fredericia means it can offer an end-to-end supply chain solution for businesses in and around Denmark.

The Port of Fredericia is the largest container port in Southern Denmark, located inside the European transport corridor with easy access to major motorways, a cross-Europe railway network and Billund Airport, which bridges Asia and Europe with connecting flights to Hangzhou, China.

The site is 100 kms from the German-Danish border and 90 kms from Aarhus, the largest container port in Denmark.

“Maersk provides ocean freight, customs clearance, trucking and airfreight,” says Peder Jensen, Maersk’s Nordics head of contract logistics.

“The warehouse was the missing link for the door-to-door integrator strategy. It is a major part of the whole supply chain.”

The site, built with Maersk’s net zero by 2040 target in mind, has solar panels that return any excess renewable energy to the grid.

Shunting operations will be carried out by electric trucks and the site has 41 electric vehicle charging outlets for delivery vehicles and Maersk employees.

“It’s going to be one of the most modern and low-emission warehouse facilities in that area,” Jensen says.
