While the numbers were down, organisers say bauma 2022 exceeded their expectations.

The seven-day event attracted around 3,200 exhibitors from 60 countries, down from 3,684 exhibitors from 63 countries in 2019, and more than 495,000 visitors from over 200 countries, a significant drop on 627,603 visitors at the last show.

The top 10 exhibitor countries were Germany, Italy, Turkey, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, USA, Austria, Spain and China.

Stefan Rummel, CEO of organiser Messe München, says: “This bauma has again stoked enthusiasm and fascination. After the world fundamentally changed following the last bauma, we’re really thrilled that bauma 2022 demonstrates the trade fair remains a powerhouse of the construction-equipment industry, thanks to our customers’ great variety of innovations, good business deals and many visitors from all over the world.”

The event has been given a thumbs-up by exhibitors including Domenic Ruccolo, CSO of Wirtgen Group and senior vice president of sales, marketing and product support for global construction equipment at John Deere. “The interest in our company and our innovative and sustainable products was simply overwhelming. Our participation in the industry-leading trade fair bauma was the most successful in the history of the Wirtgen Group,” he says.

Steffen Günther, a member of the Board of Directors of Liebherr, also expresses his satisfaction: “bauma proved to be a very successful trade fair for us. We generated a lot of enthusiasm among the large audience.”

Alexander Greschner, chief sales officer at Wacker Neuson Group, says: “Visitors flocked to our stand, and we had a lot of very good discussions. From the very first day, we were able to achieve sales success on the same level as 2019 and beyond.”

This year’s event saw a significant number of new products on show.

Manitou released a record number of new products, including seven new electric models: four new aerial work platforms, two new rotating telehandlers and its first 100% electric compact telehandler. In addition, the company showed four new medium-height telehandlers, a new range of high-capacity telehandlers and a new range of articulated loaders.

Liebherr’s stand also included new models, with the LR 1400 SX crawler crane, LR 1100.1 crawler crane, LRB 23 piling and drilling rig and HS 8070.1 duty cycle crawler crane on show, alongside the new electric machines debuted recently.

Liebherr also showed a prototype hydrogen engine powering an R 9XX H2 crawler.

Palfinger used bauma to gauge customer needs, according to CEO Andreas Klauser. “In order to be able to tailor our solutions precisely to the applications of our customers and partners in the future, intensive discussions at bauma are crucial for us, because the world's leading trade fair is the biggest meeting place for the construction industry.”

The manufacturer’s 2,500 sqm display focussed on its digitisation competence, with exhibits on three key core topics: smart solutions, smart services and eco-efficient solutions.

Kaup and B&B Attachments exhibited together, and showed off innovations including the K320 BlockMaster, the Beam Grab attachment for pre-cast concrete floor beams, and Kaup’s T413 heavy-duty bale clamp.

Bobcat’s display also highlighted electrification, digitisation, autonomous operations and a host of other innovations and concepts.

The display included the T7X – the world’s first all-electric compact track loader, and an alternative version of the Bobcat S76, where the wheels are replaced with four individual track pods, effectively converting it into a tracked loader.

Korea’s Doosan included an Innovation Centre at its stand, where visitors were able to see the new All-in-One Platform for smart construction, based around the XiteCloud system. The All-in-One Platform introduces a range of new solutions that form part of the XiteCloud system, covering many aspects of construction and mine infrastructure management, including XiteCore, XiteFleet, XiteAnalyst, XiteSIM, XiteSafety and XiteAuto.

China’s Zoomlion showed off a new series of tower cranes and pump trucks customised for the European market. Debuts included the R-generation tower cranes with one-click superlift, in-load speed, zero-speed hovering and one-button debugging to achieve smooth operation and precise control enabling efficient construction.

The next bauma will be held in Munich from 7-13 April 2025.
