The Degernpoint facility represents "the world's most modern plant" for warehouse and system equipment.

Production has commenced fully at Jungheinrich's new EUR40 million (USD53 million) plant for warehouse and system equipment. The plant was inaugurated in the northern autumn of 2013 and is located in the industrial estate of Degernpoint, near the company's main factory in Moosburg, Germany.

Jungheinrich says the new facility represents "the world's most modern plant" for warehouse and system equipment.

"Major-sized" Jungheinrich stackers like the EFX, EKX, ETX high-rack forklifts and the EKS order picker series are produced there. "This plant allows us to produce our warehouse and system equipment with enormous efficiency and sustainability," says Jungheinrich Logistiksysteme GmbH managing director Richard Brandstetter.

With floor space of over 23,000 sqm (247,570 sqft.), the Degernpoint plant can produce more than 3,000 warehouse and system trucks annually.

A total of 300 staff members are currently employed at the Degernpoint location, which produces for a global market.

The plant expansion became necessary after the Moosburg factory reached the limits of its capacity.

Separately, the Jungheinrich online fleet management system, ISM Online, has won an innovation award at the inaugural IT Innovation Summit in Munich, Germany, last month. Jungheinrich partnered with remote service platforms provider Device Insight to develop an M2M (machine-to-machine) platform for ISM Online.

ISM Online is an analytical system for the collection, monitoring and evaluation of fleet data, including utilisation data, operating hours and shock recording - at the global level, independent of site or manufacturer.
