CSX Intermodal Terminals has ordered four Konecranes RTGs.

Konecranes has received a repeat rubber-tyred gantry crane (RTG) order from transportation supplier CSX Intermodal Terminals in the US.

The recent order comprises four Konecranes RTGs and an option for one more. This is Konecranes' second RTG delivery to CSX. The previous order for three RTGs was placed in June 2012.

The cranes will be delivered to two facilities operated by CSX: three RTGs will be installed in Valleyfield, Canada, and one RTG in Chicago.

"Close and good cooperation with our customer has paid off and resulted in another important order from them," says Jost Dämmgen, Konecranes sales manager for port cranes. "Konecranes' RTGs are equipped with several innovative features that offer significantly increased performance and reliability and, at the same time, decreased maintenance costs."

The RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50 T and are able to stack one over three containers high. They will be used for stacking and moving containers from rail to truck and vice versa.

All four cranes will be delivered before October 2014. The value of the order is not disclosed.

In addition to the RTGs, Konecranes will also supply two reach stackers to CSX, which will be used for handling containers in first and second rails. The order for the reach stackers came after CSX purchased an initial unit and found it to be reliable and more productive than other equipment.

CSX Intermodal Terminals Inc, a subsidiary of CSX Corporation in Jacksonville, Florida, is an intermodal terminal operator, providing rail-to-truck and truck-to-rail trans-loading services. It operates over 30 terminals across the eastern United States and Canada.

Konecranes' 2012 group sales totaled EUR 2.17 billion (USD2.9 billion). It has 11,900 employees at 626 locations in 48 countries.
