Liebherr STS cranes working at Exolgan Container Terminal, Buenos Aires, Argentina |
Liebherr has commissioned its eighth ship-to-shore crane at Exolgan Container Terminal in Buenos Aires.
Argentine president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner attended a ceremony at the terminal to welcome the Liebherr crane. She praised the container terminal's commitment to growth and noted that Exolgan currently handles a third of all containers into and out of Argentina.
The addition to the Liebherr fleet at Exolgan has an outreach of 51.5 m (169 ft.), a back reach of 14 m (45.9 ft.) and a span of 31.37 m (102.9 ft.). The crane has a safe working load of 62.5 T under twin lift spreaders and has a lift height of 40 m (131 ft.) over the rail. The crane will be able to handle vessels with up to 20 rows of containers.
The acquisition of the crane is part of continued expansion at Exolgan Container Terminal that has already seen a 360 m (1,181 ft.) berth extension. Once completed, the expansion will allow the terminal to service two super post-Panamax vessels simultaneously.
