Briggs Equipment has secured a multi-million pound contract to become the national materials handling equipment supplier to the Royal Mail Group.

Overcoming stiff competition, the Yale forklift distributor will now supply around 600 trucks to Royal Mail and Post Office depots in the UK. Briggs spokeswoman Tiffany Clowes tells Forkliftaction.com News that the company beat forklift about eight forklift suppliers, including Linde, Toyota, Jungheinrich, Impact and Barloworld to win the contract.

Briggs chief operating officer Chris Meinecke says the company is excited to partner with the Royal Mail Group. "This is a high-profile contract in a very competitive marketplace and the Briggs team are really looking forward to working pro-actively with the group, who will have a dedicated Briggs team to manage all aspects of their fleet operations."

The mixed fleet will include electric, diesel and LPG counterbalance trucks, and a range of warehouse equipment.

Besides supplying and maintaining the machines on a long-term hire agreement, Briggs will be responsible for the service and maintenance of the group's existing, purchased equipment.
