Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) in Abu Dhabi, UAE has selected Konecranes to be the supplier of an Automated Stacking Crane (ASC) system for the second phase of the building of its container terminal in Khalifa Port - the Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT).

The order includes a total of 54 automated rail-mounted gantry (ARMG) cranes.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

Konecranes earlier successfully delivered 52 ARMG cranes, on time and on budget, for the first phase of KPCT.

The second phase involves a large expansion of the terminal area, infrastructure, container handling capacity, and the delivery of the 54 Konecranes ARMGs.

Abdullah Al Hameli, acting CEO of ADT, says: "Konecranes performed very well throughout the first phase of the construction of our container terminal. In a critical infrastructure project of this kind, which is so important for the future of KPCT, we selected Konecranes because we know and trust their technology, delivery expertise and service support."

The 54 cranes of the latest order will be similar to those delivered in the first phase. They will have a lifting capacity of 40 T, stacking 1-over-6 containers high. Thirty of the cranes will be nine-wide, and 24 will be 11-wide. They will be equipped with automation controls and Konecranes' Active Load Control (ALC) system. ALC combines advanced sway control and horizontal fine positioning, providing very efficient container handling in the ARMG yard during both automated and remote operation.

ADT is the management company and operator of KPCT, the region's first semi-automated port and one of the most technologically advanced and fastest-growing container terminals in the world.

Since its official opening and inauguration in 2012, KPCT has grown to support the local market with over 30 weekly container line services directly calling in more than 100 global destinations, connecting local trade with a wide global logistics network.

ADT is jointly owned by Abu Dhabi Ports and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL).
