Atlet has introduced the new generation Tergo reach trucks that it claims is the world's most ergonomic reach truck range.

Product development manager Dan Ulmestrand says the company's aim was to design the world's most personal truck. "By involving the users from the very beginning of the project and then continuously soliciting their input, the operators had a profound impact on the final result."

By extending the range and offering additional value for users, Atlet expects to grow its marketshare by more than 30%. The Tergo range was introduced in 1993. There are now five models (UMS, UHD, UHX, UND, ULS) in eight versions in the range. The ULS and UND reach trucks for medium-intensity applications are new additions.

The reach truck's "human-centric innovations" include multi-adjustable dashboard, floor, seat and armrest; mini-steering wheel for reduced strain on necks and shoulders; and a patent-pending backrest design, which is both high and narrow for improved body movement patterns.

Atlet claims full body vibration is reduced by 25% compared to the existing model of Tergo reach trucks. With a top speed of 14.5 km/h (28 mph.), Atlet claims the Tergo is one of the world's fastest reach trucks.

Atlet CEO Keiji Ikeda says: "Our goal is to take a stronger position within the market for warehouse trucks, and this launch of the new Tergo reach truck is securing our position as one of the leading suppliers of high performing quality trucks."

Atlet spokeswoman Helen Ingvarsson tells Forkliftaction.com News Atlet's competitors vary in the different markets and that the warehouse equipment specialist's marketshare figures are confidential.

Storage Handling Distribution magazine reported that at the UK launch of the new truck range, the company's UK joint managing director Mark Gibb announced that Atlet UK had performed well during the recession. "Thanks to our business model, we've not suffered too badly during the recession. [About] 70-80% of our trucks are on long-term rental, we own our own finance company, and we supply all the after-market parts and servicing, so we have the profitability of the whole chain."

Gibb revealed Swedish parent Atlet also remained in the black throughout the economic downturn. "We've always been profitable. In the past four years, our profitability has improved thanks to a focus on cost control."

Nissan Forklift has also launched the RG series reach truck range, which is produced by Atlet. Nissan Forklift will accept orders from August 2011 and is expanding its range with three models.
