Kalmar has denied it is encountering problems after moving its reach stacker and empty container handler production from Sweden to Poland to cut costs
(Forkliftaction.com News #587).
Industry sources told
Container Management magazine that Kalmar had been facing the "quality control problems anticipated by some industry observers when the move was announced".
Dan Pettersson, senior vice president for mobile equipment at Kalmar, told the publication: "There is absolutely no truth behind this information."
According to
Container Management, independent industry sources said Kalmar had to urgently reschedule over 50 units to be built in Sweden and rehire workers.
Pettersson stated: "We do not have any quality issues related to machines assembled in Stargard and we are not rehiring people in Sweden.
"We do not have any market credibility issues related to the transfer of production to Poland. If any customer has even the slightest question mark about the topic, once we have taken them to the factory, there is not any doubts left concerning the capability in that factory."
In March, Kalmar parent Cargotec announced it had outsourced the production of structural steel components for Hiab and Kalmar products to its Estonian supplier, Komas Oy
