Rotterdam Shortsea Terminals order hybrid straddle carriersRotterdam Shortsea Terminals (RST) has ordered five hybrid straddle carriers from Kalmar with the equipment expected to be delivered in Q3 2026.
Kalmar says the new hybrid straddle carriers form part of RST's fleet renewal program aimed at expanding capacity and improving environmental performance. The order also includes the MyKalmar Insight performance management tool.
It is not the first time RST has ordered hybrid straddle carriers from Kalmar, having ordered six identical machines in October 2023.
RST is Europe’s largest dedicated short sea shipping hub, employing approximately 350 people and handling more than 50 vessels weekly.
It offers container handling, storage and additional services such as empty depot, cross-docking and more, with a strong focus on efficiency and sustainability.
Arno Storm, CEO with RST says: “These new hybrid machines represent yet another concrete step forward as we continue to improve our environmental performance with Kalmar as our long-term partner”.
“Hybrid technology is a perfect fit for our operations, helping us to reduce fuel consumption and emissions without compromising equipment performance or service quality,” Storm continues.
