Hannover. On 2 May CeMAT 2011 - the world's leading fair for intralogistics - opens its gates for business. The featured "highlights" described below are just a small selection from the "Products and Innovations" database for CeMAT 2011, which you can access online at www.cemat.de. Over 100 exciting new products are currently logged on the database.Optically guided order-picking system(0015D) The optically guided order-picking system Kisoft Vision, which superimposes virtual information directly in the visual field of the operator via a head-mounted display and uses an integrated navigation system to guide him through the warehouse, has been further refined, and the prototype has been developed to the point of market readiness. The system makes manual order-picking systems fast and error-free, explains Knapp. The combination of mobility, flexibility and ease of use is expected to open up vast new areas of application for this technology. The built-in navigation system makes it very easy to guide the operator through the warehouse and to select the best or shortest route. The license plate tracking feature ensures 100% error-free picking. At the pick location the goods to be picked are optically highlighted for the picker and an integrated camera reads barcodes, lot numbers and serial numbers to confirm the pick without any further human intervention.

www.knapp.com Hall 27, Stand D24Tracking and controlling forklifts directly in the SAP system(0061D) For the first time graphic route optimization, mobile dialogues and forklift tracking and control are combined in a single directly installed SAP system module for the on-site movement of goods. The highlight of the presentation by IT systems house ICS International will be its new forklift guidance system "ICS SLS for SAP" in combination with its camera-based tracking module "ICS Stapler-Track". Unlike previous forklift guidance systems for SAP environments, explains the company, the new application module is installed directly into the ERP software, without the need for SAP TRM/WM, middleware or I-Docs. Depending on the user's existing IT architecture, all the data from the SAP modules WM, MM, PP and SD are fully integrated. Monitoring and control functions and mobile dialogues are shown directly in the SAP system. The tracking module allows warehouse operators to track the movements of vehicles inside and outside the warehouse with a high degree of precision. This reportedly ensures that job orders are processed and prioritized for optimum efficiency, reducing the number of empty runs and routing errors. Working at a central forklift control desk, the logistics manager has a proactive control and monitoring instrument with 3-D warehouse visualization at his command. Live demonstrations of the forklift guidance system will take place on the ICS stand each day throughout the show.

www.ics-ident.de Hall 27, Stand B38Repairs to damaged concrete floors in 15 minutes(0115D) Concrete floors that have subsided or become unstable soon begin to hamper operations in the factory or warehouse. Uretek was quick to recognize the need for solutions that deal effectively with this problem and restore floors to full functionality. Ideally such solutions should entail no disruption of the existing fabric or interference with normal business operations. According to the manufacturer, the process unveiled at CeMAT is the only repair system in the world that restores unstable or subsided concrete floors by the injection of a fast-expanding two-part special resin compound. Continuous monitoring by laser levels allows the floor to be built up precisely where needed to within very narrow tolerances. After 15 minutes the resin is fully cured and the floor can be used again without restriction. Racking and machinery can be left in place, normal operating processes are not disrupted. It is claimed that this technique can also be used to increase the structural strength of concrete floors when buildings undergo a change of use. In this way building owners can get around the problem of restrictions on the use of a building or circulation area and save themselves both time and money.

www.uretek.de Hall 13, Stand F48The world's first hybrid forklift truck(0054D) The new RX 70 hybrid forklift unveiled by Still is a new contender in the 3 - 3.5 tonne load category, and is a further development of the RX 70 diesel-powered truck. As the company points out, this truck already had the lowest energy consumption in its class. The new hybrid technology now available reduces fuel consumption by up to a further 15 per cent, depending on the particular type of use. The new hybrid truck has two on-board energy storage systems: as well as the diesel tank, it is equipped with ultra-capacitators or ultracaps, which are charged by the energy released when the vehicle brakes. Performance is then boosted during acceleration by the additional energy supplied by the ultracaps. According to the manufacturer, the hybrid forklift is ideally suited to working environments where frequent braking and acceleration are involved - such as in the loading and unloading of trucks in the drinks industry. Production of the new hybrid model has already begun, confirms Still. Already unveiled at the previous CeMAT show, the technology and its commercial potential have in the meantime become even more attractive, claims the company, both for environmental reasons and on economic grounds. The higher purchase cost of the hybrid model is said to pay for itself in less than two years, based on 1,500 operating hours per year.

www.still.de Pavillon P35LPG forklift now fitted with Tier 4 engines as standard(0081D) Hyundai Heavy Industries Europe (HHIE) is showcasing several new forklift models at this year's CeMAT, including the 50L-7A with a five-tonne load capacity. As the Korean manufacturer points out, all its generation 7A LPG trucks are now fitted with Tier 4 engines as standard. This means that these machines are among the first in Europe to comply with the higher emissions standards that have hitherto applied only in the USA. And, of course, lower exhaust emissions also help the environment and improve health and safety in the workplace. The new generation of trucks also features extensive modifications to the drive train, including a new front axle layout. As the manufacturer explains, the gearbox is installed independently of the front axle, and is fitted with an intermediate driveshaft. This is an effective way of eliminating vibrations, making for smoother truck operation and - so it is claimed - enhanced driver comfort. The gearbox is also more easily accessible for maintenance purposes. The redesigned handbrake is still a wet brake, but it no longer engages directly with the gearing mechanism. Instead it is located on the front axle differential, where it is not exposed to dust and is more easily accessible. Technical adjustments to the brake have also further increased braking power. And all trucks now come equipped with the OPSS safety feature (Operator Presence Sensing System). This detects when the driver leaves his seat, and immediately disables all hydraulic and drive train functions.

www.hyundai.eu Hall 25, Stand J09Catalytic bypass burner for vehicle engines(0165D) In addition to its burner-based systems, HJS Emission Technology, a German specialist for exhaust gas after-treatment technology, has developed the first thermoelectric variant in the form of its CB2 catalytic pre-burner. With this new development, the required temperature in the exhaust is generated in an adjustable bypass flow via an electrically heated element and a pre-catalyst. As a result, the company explains, no flame or oxygen supply is required, making this thermal management solution very easy to operate, with excellent cold start capabilities. Even very low exhaust gas temperatures can be raised to the point where filter and denoxation systems function effectively. This is seen as an ideal solution for non-road applications, which, because of their load profile, need an active regeneration technology to ensure the reliable functioning of their exhaust gas systems. The light-off temperatures for after-treatment systems that reduce hazardous gases such as CO, HC and NOX are reportedly reached under all engine operating conditions. Production start for the catalytic bypass burner is scheduled for 2012.

www.hjs.com Hall 25, Stand C10/1Foldable lightweight transportation box(0112D) The Flip-Box AL is a foldable and collapsible lightweight transportation box made from expanded polypropylene (EPP). It features an integrated tray insert into which individually designed components can be slotted; these can remain in the box even when it is folded down. According to Overath, the reduction in volume helps to keep transport and warehousing costs to a minimum. The box's own relatively low empty weight means that higher cargo loads can be carried for a given overall weight. Space-saving warehousing, long durability and a wide variety of possible applications are additional economic benefits of this innovative transport system, which - as the manufacturer points out - utilizes a patented technology. This saves tooling and development costs and guarantees short delivery and project planning lead times, even when modifications are required. The box can be combined with various standard transportation systems such as steel pallets and lightweight plastic pallets to form loading units. The available heights are synchronized with standard truck and container dimensions. The Flip-Box has already won the German Packaging Prize and the Worldstar 2010 Award sponsored by the World Packaging Organization.
