Kalmar has received another order for five of its latest generation rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) from Gydnia Container Terminal (GCT) in Poland.
The value of the order is confidential.
Two similar machines were delivered this year, and the latest order was booked into Cargotec's fourth quarter intake, with delivery scheduled for December 2015.
Jakub Wojciechowski, senior sales and service manager of Kalmar Poland, is pleased with the RTG that GCT selected for its operations. "With total cost of ownership, reliable performance and operational safety high on the agenda, the E-One² really ticks all the boxes. Plus, as it's an all-electric concept, it removes the need for hydraulics, saving further costs."
GCT selected the 41 T capacity E-One2, zero-emission RTG, which stacks 6+1 wide and 1-over-6 high. According to Cargotec, this model produces lower emissions than conventional diesel-powered RTGs and requires significantly less maintenance due to its simplified design. The electric power system "completely eliminates the need for engine maintenance, which translates into much lower downtime and reduced maintenance costs".
The delivery will include the Kalmar SmartFleet process automation solution that boosts operational transparency and reduces downtime through remote equipment monitoring and reporting. The Kalmar SmartRail automatic gantry steering system is also part of the operational package to improve safety and operator performance as it allows the operator to concentrate fully on driving and manoeuvring the containers.
Jerzy Czartowski, GCT's board chairman, says the company has plans for expansion at the Port of Gdynia and "it's vital that we have the right equipment and business partnerships in place to fuel this growth".
"Following the delivery of two fully electric RTGs earlier this year, we were impressed with their performance and the remarkable cost-saving attributes. We are pleased that Kalmar has once again won the tender for the delivery of (a) further five new cranes into our terminal."
GCT is a full-service container facility located in the Port of Gdynia on the coast of the southern Baltic Sea. GCT serves as a feeder port connecting Poland with hubs in Bremerhaven, Hamburg and Rotterdam as well as a load centre for intra-Europe short-sea cargoes.
Kalmar is a part of Cargotec.
