ISD Solutions has turned to McLeman Forklift Services Ltd, a division of Linde Forklift Truck Hire, for a solution to an issue at its current project, Nestle's GBP200 million (USD340 million) extension to a factory in Derbyshire.
Martin Wright, contract manager for ISD Solutions, says: "This application was one not to be taken on by the faint-hearted. Due to the complex nature of the application, working at height, floor loadings and the installation by crane, McLeman Forklift Services Ltd ... (was) the only manufacturer prepared to come up with a solution."
For the first time in the UK, all forms of coffee production including freeze dried, spray dried and pod technology, will be brought together on one site, the Nescafe factory in Tutbury, Derbyshire.
The project involves a forklift installing freezer panels - an operation complicated by the fact that the panels are located at the top of a six-storey building.
The gas-powered counterbalance truck provided by McLeman, with a capacity of 1.8 T, had to be lifted by crane up to the sixth floor for it to carry out its duties on the top floor of the building. The truck will remain there for three months until the installation is complete and then be removed by crane.
Fitted with a specialised 'Oktopus' attachment, the forklift can transport the freezer panels carefully and move them accurately into position.
