JCB helps quake effort
Sulawesi, IndonesiaJCB has donated USD250,000 worth of equipment to the Indonesian island of Sulawesi following the earthquake and tsunami which have killed more than 1,400 people.
Two Loadall telescopic handlers, complete with powerful grab attachments, are on their way to the region which is battling to cope with the humanitarian disaster.
The 531-70 and 540-170 machines can lift loads weighing several tonnes and, with the grab attachment, will be perfect for removing heavy debris. The machines, fitted with a variety of other attachments, including buckets and forks, will also play a major part in reconstruction efforts once they begin.
JCB chairman Lord Bamford says the scale of the natural disaster has shocked people all over the world and "JCB always tries to help wherever these catastrophes occur".

CSCMP announces innovation winner
Nashville, TN, United StatesIntel has been named as the winner of the 2018 Supply Chain Innovation Award (SCIA) at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals' (CSCMP) 2018 EDGE Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee.
The SCIA is a live competition in which a panel of judges join EDGE Conference attendees to hear presentations on innovative solutions and real-world results form top supply chain companies. The competition is held throughout the week of the EDGE Conference and winners were announced on the final day at the closing session.
Intel explained how it is artificial intelligence and cognitive computing tools to provide targeted and proactive information to support more complex data-based decisions, to identify new options and opportunities, and to alert potential supply disruptions and supply chain risks.
In addition to the winner, the top submissions were:
- BuySeasons, for achieving record order-fulfillment productivity
- Kansas City Southern Railway Company, cited for its unified cargo processing at Laredo International Rail Gateway
- Pfizer, for its supply chain in-transit visibility standard
- Schneider Electric for its application of agile methodology which increased productivity by 71%.
