More than 100 forklift drivers participated in the BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) Forklift Truck Skills Competition held by Linde (China) in Shenyang, Liaoning province last month.
The competition tested contestants' driving skills, work efficiency and operation capabilities using Linde electric forklifts and reach trucks.
A Linde spokeswoman tells Forkliftaction.com News that the competition aims to improve forklift drivers' operation skills. "Linde (China) FLT helps BBA to improve logistics efficiency by holding this kind of competition." Linde has been a service provider to BBA for over 10 years.

Konecranes receives order for "silent" cranes

Konecranes has received an order from the Port of Oslo, Norway for two Panamax-sized ship-to-shore (STS) cranes - with an option for one more.
The Oslo Sjursöya container terminal is located close to densely populated areas. Stringent noise and CO2 emissions limits were set for the new STS cranes.
"Our goal is to deliver the world's most silent STS cranes to Port of Oslo. We have applied the most advanced noise reduction knowledge and technology in order to meet the Port of Oslo's very tough requirements," says Juha Aatola, Konecranes general manager, STS cranes.
Fabrication and erection of the cranes will take place in Finland. The cranes will have twin-lift operation, a lifting capacity of 64 T, and an outreach of 40 m (131 ft.).
The value of the order that will be delivered in the northern autumn of 2015 is confidential.

Streamline distributes 3D forklift trainer

Startup firm Streamline Simulations LLC has obtained a distribution agreement for physics-based three-dimensional (3D) virtual-reality forklift safety training software from Tactus Technologies Inc of Amherst, New York. The simulator interactions and dynamics behave closely to real-world conditions.
Completed in March, the agreement authorises Streamline as the exclusive licensor of the Tactus technology..
Streamline is working with a professional training company that is interested in acquiring 3D forklift trainer simulation software and would be Streamline's initial customer.
In 2006, Tactus began developing the training software and made significant investments in the project. In addition, the Washington, DC-based National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health supported Tactus with small business innovation research grants totaling USD850,000.
The software is compliant with US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Tactus started its marketing efforts in 2013 and made an initial commercial delivery to a Jamestown, New York plant of engine maker Cummins Inc.
