won't move

I just recently got my Clark C-500-45 forklift running and have been working on other odds and ends. I went to move it and it doesn't want to move forward or reverse. I don't think the trans is slipping but almost like the brakes are holding it back. I did notice the e-brake cable was frozen and seemed to be holding up the lever on the small brake drum underneath so I removed the cable but it didn't seem to help. Are there common problems with the brakes that cause this issue? This forklift had been sitting for about 5 years. Thanks

I ended up pulling apart the right brake assembly and found the wheel cylinder frozen. Does anyone know the part # on the wheel cylinder on this lift? Also need a parking brake cable that is also frozen if anyone knows the part # on that too. Thanks

I raised the front wheels off the ground and the left wheel will turn by hand but the right one is stuck. If I start the lift and put it in drive or reverse the left wheel is the only one that will turn. Do I have a problem in the right brake drum? Thanks

The first thing to check is how free are the wheels to turn- get the drive wheels off the ground, put a socket on 1 of the lug nuts & try turning the wheels- they shouldn't be that hard to turn by hand.

If it fails that test, disconnect the brake line from the master cylinder on the right side (as seated on the machine) & try the test again. If the wheels turn more easily then either the master cylinder is faulty or the brake actuation rod needs adjusting.

If the wheels turn easily with the first test then you may have a sticking inching valve or a worn trans. Either one of these issues will allow the engine to rev to governed speed as if the trans selector is in neutral. To test these- have lift in open area, block the wheels, rev engine to governed speed- keep engine reved & place trans selector in f or r. At a minimum the engine should bog down under the stress of the engaged trans. If there's really no difference in engine rpm then a trans issue is present. At that point another set of checks are required.

I noticed today that it will move but you really have to push on the accelerator to get it to move but once it warms up it won't move forward or reverse. I've read about a stuck inching valve, is this possible? Thanks

Hello, Brakes are inside the differential. They have a friction style brake shoe adjuster. They will sometimes seize or the shoe might have bonded to the drum. C500 were good trucks. Parts are very reasonable but it is labor intensive for repairs. Good luck
