Discussion:
Warehousing with AGVs

Has anybody here had any experience (positive or negative) replacing forklifts in a warehouse with AGVs (Automatic Guided Vehicle) and what are the things to look/watch out for?

I know AGVs are use extensively in manufacturing but can not find a lot of material about their use in warehouses.

Any and all feedback would be appreciated.

If you ever need to replace the forklift or AGV wheels, they are nomally Vulkollan material, Pleiger Plastics can strip and recover those wheels, eliminating the cost of buying new cores over and over.

I work for HK Systems and we have had experience replacing manned very narrow aisle storage aisles with laser guided turret trucks.

Great ROI and productivity boost.

I used and seen them in warehouses augmenting forklifts for constant runs, to P&D's, and pallet areas (with an ASRS system). Also used them to drive from pick point to pick point with a human as a passenger doing the picking.
Tough to routinely invest in them in a warehouse without an ASRS system to do the picking, then AGV's are a great fit.

The use of "hello" as a telephone greeting is attributed to Thomas Edison. He is said to have suggested it as a simpler alternative to other greetings, such as "Do I get you?" or "Are you there?".
