Discussion:
Transmission Won’t Go Into Gear, Clutch Won’t Disengage Problem?

Looking for some help here. The unit is a 1985 Hyster H80xl2. I still don't understand if this is a manual transmission or has an inching pedal torque converter set up. It has a forward/reverse shifter as well as a speed and neutral shifter on the left side of the steering column. It acts like a clutch that won't disengage. The far left pedal will stay down unless manually pulled back up. Neither up or down position of the pedal will release the (clutch). You can try to put it in forward or reverse and it will grind unless the unit is turned off. It can be started in gear and moved. I can't figure out how to add photos here but will try to figure that out. The (clutch?) pedal is to the left of the column and the brake and throttle are to the right of the column. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hello i am experienxing the exact same symptoms
On an older hyster with a wet clutch.i believe sump and scavage clutch? I can see oil in there not sure of level?
Wondering if you ever fixed this issue? Or ever got the clutch free..or have any advise for me before i tear it apart.i did make sure that i adjuated all the slack out of the pedal linkage.i also removed the top inspection plate..for a visual inspection. I believe i can see the throw out bearing moving when pedal moves.also has resistance.but clutch plates seem to have a welded symptom.will start in neutral and wont allow it into fwd or rev.but when off, you can start it in gear. Clutch pedal does noting. Someone please add to this thread..

You have a standard transmission and either your clutch is stuck to flywheel or you have a broken pressure plate you will have to take apart to find out what is wrong ? good luck
