Discussion:
Unknown Yale model help needed.

New to this forum and forklift ownership as well. I recently purchased a used "old" forklift that needs mechanical help (per the sellers instructions) at the time I purchased it. The stamped nameplate is missing. His listing was a 4000# capacity forklift. It is propane equipped with a 2 stage mast and pneumatic tires. I took some pictures where there is an engraved number on the left side exterior below the gas nozzle.

I sent the photos to the local Yale rep. in town and they said I have a 2.0L Mazda motor (which I think he's wrong) and the number on the side is not in his database so he can't help me. Nice rep right?

It is stamped: G1D-00641

On the right side of the engine head there is a stamped number:

UA 1484CC -S430823

I think this is 1980s vintage unit. The roll cage has rounded radius at the front and rear of the cage.

The controls are up/dwn and tilt.

I have photos but do not see an option for including them.

Once I find out what I have then I want to tackle the mechanical issues. The previous owner said he couldn't keep it running. He said he took it to a local forklift shop that quoted him a new distributor, plugs, wires, and regulator for $2k installed.

I am comfortable working on cars, engines, transmissions, repairs in general etc. Just never worked on a forklift.

Where do I get parts, manuals, etc. What kind of engine do I have.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you kindly.

Thank you mrfixit. With your help and landing a manual on ebay for the GLP040AB I figured that had the best matchup to everything mine has. I gutted the wiring and re-did everything (previous owners abused the poor machine). I concluded it was pretty much bad abused wires. The points were definately shot. I found an exact replacement for the points at NAPA by going with a 1971 Mazda 1200 pickup. Lift has worked flawlessly for 2+ years now. Now I want to change to electronic ignition. The points only last a year butwith the yale manual I dont' see how they don';t use a resistor on their regulator so the points see 12V and a year later they get charred. I'll either adapt to electronic or see about adding a resistor to get down to the 6-8V.

This might be a little late (like a year). Did you get your firing order resolved. I did get my fork lift issues resolved. I can go take a picture is needed.

That's the motor model : 1484 cubic centimeter model UA Mazda. Probably Yale model # GLP040AB, it used that motor. New distributor is about $275. Points kit $10. Depending what LP regulator it has, $80-$250 but there are rebuild kits to fix the one you have. Maybe look on E Bay for a manual.
