Konecranes' E-Hybrid RTGKonecranes has launched its E-Hybrid RTG (rubber-tyred gantry crane) and electric empty container handler to the global market at the TOC Europe 2025 transport and logistics show in Rotterdam.
The Finnish-headquartered materials handling equipment manufacturer says the launch takes it one step closer to realising its “goal of having fully electric variants of its entire port equipment portfolio by 2026”.
The Konecranes E-Hybrid RTG expands the traditional diesel battery hybrid-powered RTG to electric battery operation.
“Blackouts are a clear operational risk for a number of our terminal customers,” Thomas Gylling, director of marketing & customer experience, port solutions with Konecranes says.
“So the Konecranes E-Hybrid RTG, with a combination of onboard batteries and busbar or cable reel electricity supply, solves that problem. But the E-Hybrid RTG is a game-changer for all customers on the road to fully electric container handling and lower emissions.”
Konecranes says the RTG batteries can charge via cable reel or busbar system and all the parts of the battery technology are field-proven.
The company says it has received an order for its E-Hybrid RTGs, which is now globally available, from a Brazilian container terminal.
Konecranes is also rolling out its electric empty container handler with a 9-10T capacity’s in Europe and North America. The machine is already available on Asia, MEA and Latin America.
“This empty container handler is the latest addition to the series of fully electric lift trucks that Konecranes has introduced in recent years, starting with the 10-18T and 18-25T electric forklifts,” the company states.
