National Forklift Safety Day (NFSD), the event that provides all who work in the materials handling sector an opportunity to remind themselves of the importance of operator safety training and forklift safety practices, took place this year on Tuesday, June 10.

Organised by the Industrial Truck Association (ITA), the organisation that represents manufacturers and suppliers of component parts and accessories that conduct business in the United States, Canada and Mexico, this year’s event took place in Washington, D.C.

The event, which was live streamed by ITA, covered a range of topics including workplace safety culture, technology aiding workplace safety, human and organisational performance safety, and more.

Speakers on the day were Brian Feehan, president, Industrial Truck Association; Brett Wood, ITA chairman of the board, president and CEO Toyota Material Handling North America; Amanda Wood Laihow, acting assistant secretary of labour for occupational safety and health administration (OSHA); Ron Grisez, director - product safety, Crown Equipment Corporation; Jonathan Fortkamp, PhD, CSP, senior director - health, safety & environment, DHL Supply Chain, North America; and Lisa Brooks, CIE, principal, Nexus HSE.

The twelfth instalment of the event, NFSD takes place annually on the second Tuesday in June.
