Discussion:
auto braking

Have a unit that slows too fast when foot off accel pedal , tried to get into computer at dash to reset slow down but could not get in , did not have password, got Hyster dealer in with scan tool ,they played for a while then told me it needs new transmission at a cost of $16000,has any one had a problem like this and is their any way to get into computer to change passwords and try to adjust slow down speeds before getting trans, as it drives great at normal speeds just slows too fast and hard for operator to get under pallets without a jump, any help or info on this would be great

this sure sounds like a Hyster tech that did not know or want to bother to try to calibrate the transmission/pedal overlap.
?Did he take pressure readings from the trans?
If I was in your shoes, I would [for sure] I would be calling his supervisor, and wanting the pressure readings...

"it's not rocket surgery"
Your post is a bit confusing (to me anyway :/ ), you say that you can't slow the truck down without a "jump"? Describe this jump. As far as the auto braking, would you rather replace brake shoes or a trans? The auto brake works by engaging the opposite direction clutch pack of the selected direction the trans is presently in (if going forward, engages the Rev clutch pack etc). Anyone with a mechanical knowledge of trans realizes that this severly overheats & wears the clutch packs. I always advise my customers to turn this function off as a brake job is MUCH less expensive than a trans job.

If the brakes are working correctly then slowing the machine should be like any other forklift.

If you still want this function, and the trans is working ok with no engagement issues in f/r, then I don't understand why they say you need a trans, the computer dictates when & how the trans engages. I would ask for a detailed explanation of why a new trans is needed- sounds suspicious to me
