Discussion:
oil pump pressure

I just bought a gps 25 that had the oil pressure light on and making a squealing noise at times.I took off 2 rod bearing caps and they both have had the bearings turned in them, the crank is still fine( the bearing material wasn't wore through yet).So my question is where is the oil pump located and what would make it loose pressure or stop working?

Found out the probem, the oil pump/balance shaft chain is stretched so much and the guides worn the crank sprocket teeth are worn off/striped. Does anyone have any info on how the balance shaft is timed?

yes should be able to seperate the engine and trans in the truck and pull just the engine.....should be access to get to the torque converter bolts to seperate it from the flywheel

Thanks for the reply, the engine is the 4g54 with a balance shaft, the pump isn't in the pan so I guess on the front of the engine.I didn't have time to take any other bearing caps off but I'm sure they are in the same condition.I was hoping something just failed in the pump and didn't do too much damage to the rest of the engine.Any idea what all is involved in taking out the engine(does the engine and trans separate in the truck) or does it all come out as one unit?I was hoping this was going to be a quick fix and nothing major wrong but so far maybe I should have left it there...

Oil Pump location will depend on what engine is in it,some are driven off the front of the crankshaft and some are in the bottom of the pan and driven off the distributor.....as for loss of oil pressure that could be any number of things first being poor maintenance and not changing/keeping the oil level where it should be and not changing the filter.....could also be worn out main bearings and just a worn out engine in general......as for the two bearings that were spun am sure there HAS to be damage of some sort if they spun in the block sounds like the engine needs repalced with a Remanufactured one.
