Discussion:
Cleaning engine compartment

I have a forklift that broke down and has been sitting in my very dust shop for about 2 years now, I refurbished the machine but I need to clean the engine compartment. Compressed air is not enough and cleaning it by hand would be a losing battle, besides protecting the computer and the distributor is there anything keeping me from spraying Simple Green on the entire thing and then using a low powered pressure washer? Thanks.

Wrap your alternator, plug your air intake well. Since it has been sitting for a while with all types fr dust build up, you may want to remove all cabling & clean the terminal posts cable end, then spray with a dielectric grease, and open each wire harness connector, clean M&F contact pins with electric contact spray cleaner & receptacles & spray with a dielectric grease. Do one at a time so you know where it was connected to - you may know thsi but I've learned from my mistakes.

Does the forklift run?

Pressure wash it out, obviously take care where you aim the water.

I've pressure washed plenty of Cesab / BT & Linde counter balances out, they soon dry out.
