Driver Safety

I know that the roof of a forklift provides safety to the driver from falling product. My question is, do the poles that hold the roof in place help protect the driver? If so then why are they not present on a stand up order picker?

Drivers overhead guards are required when load goes above drivers head. In the case of order pickers the load is level with driver and doesn't extend above the head
Hope this helps

On reach trucks, the 3rd post is to protect the operator from coming in contact with racking or other obstructions. Order pickers don't have them because they are designed to be used with a pallet on the forks, which keeps operator away from racking. They also generally travel alongside racking while reach trucks turn around in aisles

An overhead guard is designed to protect the operator from falling objects. Wear a hard hat when appropriate for additional protection. Keep hands and feet within the forklift to avoid the danger of falling loads.

Some stand up order pickers do come with at least grille roofs if they handle heavy cargo >1.2 Tons. Few warehouse equipment intended for less heavier loads do away with them probably for visibility sake.
